Older pipes in Rosemead houses
With a median build year of 1959, many Rosemead houses started with galvanized steel supply pipe, and some still have sections of it alongside later copper. Galvanized pipe corrodes from the inside, and pinhole leaks and failed fittings are common where old and new metal meet. We cut out the damaged run and join in new pipe with the right transition fittings.
Small leaks add up. The EPA’s WaterSense program says the average household’s leaks can waste more than 9,300 gallons of water a year, and nine percent of homes have leaks that waste 50 gallons or more per day. A pinhole that sprays inside a wall can do damage long before it shows.
What happens on a burst pipe call
Stop the water
If the water is still running when you call, we walk you through closing the house shutoff or the fixture valve by phone. Once it is off, open a faucet at the lowest point of the house to drain pressure.

Open up and find the damage
We expose the leak with the least cutting possible, dry the area and inspect the pipe on both sides of the break. Corroded galvanized pipe or brittle fittings near the break tell us how far to cut back.

Repair the section
The damaged piece is cut out and replaced with new pipe and fittings that suit the existing material, with dielectric or transition fittings where copper meets steel. We turn the water back on slowly, check the joints under pressure, and watch for drips.
Dry, then patch
A wall cavity needs to dry before it is closed. Once it does, we patch the drywall, match the texture and prime it, so it is ready for paint.
Bigger jobs, free estimate
We repair sections of pipe and the fixtures on them. Whole-house repiping, slab leaks and rerouting lines under or around a slab, and sewer or drain line breaks are bigger plumbing jobs, each with its own free estimate. Main line breaks on the street side of the house valve belong to the water utility. If water is near outlets or the panel, shut off power to that area first.
While we’re out for this, Rosemead customers often add shutoff valve replacement, pressure regulator and expansion tank replacement, drywall patching and crack repair or faucet repair and replacement.

Burst pipe questions
How much does burst pipe repair cost?
Depends on location. Send photos.
Why do pipes burst?
Corrosion, high pressure or damage.
What should I do first when a pipe bursts?
Close the main shutoff, then open a low faucet to drain the line. Text us a photo of the break.
Can you fix a pinhole leak in copper?
Yes, by cutting out the damaged section and joining in new pipe, where the pipe is reachable.
Do you patch the wall afterward?
Yes, once the area has dried out.
What causes washer hoses to burst?
Rubber hoses age and weaken. Braided hoses are a sturdier replacement.
Where is my main shutoff?
In most Rosemead houses it is where the line enters the house, often near the front hose bib or in the garage. If you cannot find it or it will not turn, the meter box has a valve your water supplier can close. Text us a photo and we can help you find it.
Can you fix a pinhole leak without replacing the whole pipe?
Yes. We cut out the section with the hole and join in new pipe. If the same run keeps leaking in several places, we tell you, since that points to pipe that is worn through overall.

The leak is inside the wall. What happens to the drywall?
We open the smallest area that lets us repair the pipe, let it dry, then patch, texture and prime the opening.
My washing machine hose burst. Is that a simple fix?
Usually. We replace both hoses with braided stainless ones and check the laundry valves, which often weep once they are turned.
Do you handle slab leaks?
Yes. Finding and rerouting a leak under the slab is a bigger plumbing job with its own free estimate.
