In short
Swapping a dishwasher in an existing opening covers the water supply, a drain hose routed with a high loop or air gap, a power connection to the existing outlet or junction box, securing it under the counter, and leveling it. A full test cycle ends the visit, and we check every connection for leaks.
Your photo checklist
- The old dishwasher or the empty space where it goes
- The cabinet under the sink, door open
- The plug or wiring behind the old unit

- The edge of the counter over the opening
Covered on a Rosemead visit
- Old dishwasher disconnected, pulled out and hauled away
- New braided supply line and fitting on the existing hot water valve
- Drain hose connected to the existing disposal or tailpiece with a high loop or air gap

- Unit leveled, squared to the cabinet opening and secured to the counter or side cabinets
- Test run with every connection checked for leaks
Outside what we take on

Dishwashers in older Rosemead kitchens
Kitchens in Rosemead houses from around the city’s median build year of 1959 often had a dishwasher fitted in later, so the opening, the valve under the sink and the outlet can vary from house to house. We look at all three before the new unit arrives, so the install is not held up by a missing fitting.

The U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Saver guide notes that ENERGY STAR certified dishwashers boost water temperature to 140°F, and suggests scraping dishes and loading them instead of rinsing them first. A dishwasher on a good hot water supply and a clean drain does that job well.
How the swap goes
Shut off and remove
We turn off the water valve and power, disconnect the supply, drain and power from the old unit, release its mounting screws and slide it out, protecting the floor.
Prepare the new unit
The supply elbow and power connection are fitted to the new dishwasher, and we check that the drain hose reaches the sink connection with room for a high loop.
Set and secure
The unit slides in, the feet are adjusted so it sits level and square with the counter, and the mounting brackets are fastened so it cannot tip forward.
Test
Water and power go back on and we run a cycle, checking under the unit and the sink for leaks before the toe kick goes back on.
Bigger jobs, free estimate
We connect to the existing outlet or hookup. A new dedicated circuit, a new outlet, or moving the outlet is a bigger electrical job with its own free estimate. A new water line or drain where none exists is a bigger plumbing job with its own free estimate.
While we’re out for this, Rosemead customers often add dryer vent cleaning, garbage disposal repair and replacement, P-trap and sink drain repair, shutoff valve replacement or ice maker water line installation.

Dishwasher questions
Why does my dishwasher smell like sewage?
Without a high loop or air gap, dirty water from the sink can flow back into the dishwasher. We reroute the drain hose so it cannot siphon back.
How much does dishwasher installation cost?
It depends on whether the existing valve, drain and outlet can be reused and whether you supply the unit. Tell us the model for a quote.
How do I keep the new dishwasher draining well?
Clean the filter at the bottom of the tub as the maker recommends, and run the disposal before starting the dishwasher if both share a drain.
Can you install a dishwasher I bought online?
Yes. Have it delivered, leave it boxed if you like, and we unpack it, check for shipping damage and install it.
The old valve under my sink is stiff. Is that a problem?
Old valves often weep once they are turned. If it will not close fully or drips, we replace it with a quarter-turn valve during the swap.

Do you install the panel on a panel-ready dishwasher?
Yes, using the maker’s template, as long as the cabinet panel is supplied.

Will a new dishwasher fit my opening?
Most are made for a standard opening. We check the height, width and depth against the new model before install day.
Do you take the old dishwasher?
Yes. We haul it away when we finish.
What is the high loop for?
It keeps dirty sink water from flowing back into the dishwasher. We fasten the drain hose up under the counter, or connect to an air gap if your sink has one.
My dishwasher plugs into an outlet. Is that fine?
Yes, if the outlet is already there. We use it as is.
Why is my dishwasher not draining but there’s no blockage?
The drain hose may be kinked behind the unit or missing its high loop, or the drain pump is failing. We check the hose path first, since that’s the cheapest fix.
Does a new dishwasher plug in or get hardwired?
Either, depending on what’s already there. We match the existing setup: a cord kit for an outlet, or a direct connection to an existing junction box.
