In short
Small holes from anchors, larger holes from doorknobs, cracks along seams and old fixture cutouts all get patched, taped, coated and sanded smooth. We prime the patch so paint grips evenly, then match texture and paint if you want us to finish it.
Your photo checklist
- The damage with a coin or ruler for scale
- The wall in normal light, to see texture
- Your paint color or the paint can
- Nearby outlets or trim
- Any water staining nearby
Covered on a Rosemead visit
- Small holes and anchor holes filled; bigger holes backed and patched with new drywall

- Primer and paint over the repair, with your leftover paint or a matched color
Outside what we take on

Shaking, settling and 1950s walls
Rosemead sits close to where the 1987 Whittier Narrows earthquake struck. The Southern California Earthquake Data Center lists it as magnitude 5.9, centered 7 miles southeast of Pasadena on “a previously unknown, concealed thrust fault.” The same page notes that “Wood frame residences sustained relatively little damage.”
Most of the city is houses rather than apartments: 11,154 of Rosemead’s 15,447 homes are single-family detached (ACS 2020–2024), and the median home was built in 1959. Small quakes and years of ordinary settling tend to show up as hairline cracks at the corners of door and window openings. Those are usually cosmetic. A crack that keeps widening, or a door that suddenly starts to bind, is worth a closer look.
In an older house, check before anyone sands old texture or joint compound. EPA lists “Textured paint and patching compounds used on walls and ceilings” among the places asbestos may be found (EPA, Learn About Asbestos). If you aren’t sure about yours, have a sample tested by a certified lab or consultant, and we’ll go over the result with you before starting.
How a patch job goes
Look at the damage
We check the size of the hole, whether the crack keeps reopening, and whether the paper face is torn or just dented.

Cut back and back it
Loose edges get trimmed to sound board. Bigger holes get wood backing or a California patch so the new piece sits flush.
Tape, fill and feather
Mesh or paper tape over the seams, then thin coats sanded wide so no ridge shows when light hits the wall at an angle.
Texture and paint
Orange peel or knockdown sprayed to match the wall around it, then primer and finish paint.
Where the job stops
A water stain that comes back after paint points to a leak, and the source has to be fixed before we patch. Cracks that keep growing, or that run across a ceiling and down a wall together, need a structural assessment before any patching. Once the cause is handled, we can close up the wall and refinish it.

While we’re out for this, Rosemead customers often add wallpaper removal, rental turnover repairs, TV wall mounting, burst pipe repair, shelf installation or furniture assembly.

Wall repair questions
Why does my drywall have nail pops?
Framing lumber shrinks and shifts, pushing nails out. We drive a screw beside each pop, reset the nail and patch.
How much does it cost to patch a hole in drywall?
Small holes are quick; doorknob-size holes need backing and more coats. A photo with something for scale helps us quote.
Why does the crack over my bedroom door keep coming back?
Door and window corners flex the most when a house moves. Taping the crack holds better than filling it with caulk or spackle alone.
Can you match the texture on my ceiling?
Usually. We test on a scrap of board first so the pattern and size of the splatter come close before it goes on the ceiling.
How long before the patch can be painted?
Drying time depends on the fill; we’ll let you know after we see photos. Deep patches may need a second trip once the compound dries all the way.
Do you fix water-stained drywall?
Yes. Once the leak is fixed and the board is dry and firm, we seal the stain with a stain-blocking primer and repaint. Soft or crumbling board gets cut out.
Do you text before you arrive?
Yes, we text before heading over.
What if you find more damage once you start?
We stop and show you. Nothing beyond the quote happens until you approve it.
Do you need my leftover paint?
It helps. If there’s a can in the garage, send a photo of the label. If not, matching the color is part of the job, and the quote lists the materials.
I’m moving out. Can you work in an empty unit?
Yes. A key, a lockbox code, or a tenant or agent letting us in all work.
What if the patch shows once it dries?
Tell us. If something isn’t right after the job, we come back and take care of it.
How do I fix drywall tape bubbles?
Cut out the loose tape, bed new tape in compound and feather it out.
How do I fix a drywall corner?
The damaged corner bead is cut out, a new one is set, and it’s coated smooth.
How do I fix drywall where the paper peeled off?
Torn face paper gets a shellac or oil primer first, then a skim coat. Spackle put straight on torn paper bubbles.
Is drywall hole filler enough for small holes?
For nail holes, yes. For nail and small anchor holes, spackle works. Holes larger than a fingertip need backing or mesh tape, or the filler cracks and sinks later. We pick the method by hole size.
Can you fix all the anchor holes before I move out?
Yes. Move-out patching is common. We fill and sand the holes from shelves, frames and mounts, prime them and touch up paint if you have the color, so the walls are ready for the move-out walk-through.
