Fridge lines in Rosemead kitchens
Most Rosemead houses date from before refrigerator ice makers were common; the median year built is 1959. Lines added later often run from the kitchen sink cold supply through a cabinet side to the fridge, sometimes in thin plastic tubing joined with a saddle valve clamped onto the pipe. Those are the connections that most often fail.
A small leak behind a refrigerator can run for months without being seen. The EPA’s Fix a Leak Week page says the average household’s leaks waste more than 9,300 gallons a year, and suggests checking the water meter before and after two hours with no water in use. If it moves, something is leaking.
How a hookup goes
Find the supply
We locate the existing fridge valve, or the nearest cold line where a tee can go.
Shut off and fit
Water off, saddle valves removed, and a proper quarter-turn valve installed.
Run the line
Braided line sized to reach without strain, with a loop behind the fridge so it can slide out later.
Flush and check
We run water through the dispenser to clear air and check both ends for drips before pushing the fridge back.
Bigger jobs, free estimate
A new line run through walls, under the floor or across the kitchen to an island is a bigger plumbing job with its own free estimate. We connect from an existing valve or an accessible supply nearby.
While we’re out for this, Rosemead customers often add shutoff valve replacement, dishwasher installation, faucet repair and replacement or toilet repair.

Ice maker line questions
Why does my ice maker keep freezing up?
Low water pressure lets the fill tube freeze. Checking the supply line and valve often fixes it.

How much does it cost to run a water line to a fridge?
It depends on the distance and whether a valve is already there. Short runs from the sink are quick. Send a photo and the distance.

Why replace plastic tubing?
It gets brittle with age and can crack or pull off its fitting. Braided stainless lines hold up better.
What is a saddle valve?
A valve clamped onto a pipe that pierces it. They tend to leak over time; we replace them with a proper tee and valve.
How long should the line be?
Long enough to pull the fridge out for cleaning without straining the fittings, with a loose loop behind it.
Why is my new ice maker not making ice?
Air in the line or a closed valve. The fridge manual often says to discard the first few batches.
Do I need a filter?
Most refrigerators have one built in. We can add an inline filter if yours does not.
Can you connect a fridge on an island?
Only if a supply is already there. New lines through the floor get their own free estimate.
How do I check for a hidden leak?
Check the water meter before and after two hours with no water in use, as the EPA suggests.
Will my water softener affect the ice?
Many people prefer a cold line from before the softener for drinking water. We can tee off whichever is reachable.
Do you move the fridge?
Yes, carefully, and set it back level.
How long does it take?
Depends on the job; we’ll let you know after we see photos.
