In short
We remove the old toilet, inspect the flange, set your new one level on a new seal, connect a new supply line, and run several flushes to check for leaks. Before the visit, we confirm the rough-in distance, so the new toilet fits the bolts that are already in your floor.
Your photo checklist
- Distance from the wall behind the toilet to the bolt caps
- The toilet and the walls next to it
- The new toilet model or box
- The floor around the base
- The shutoff valve and line

Rosemead bathrooms
Many Rosemead bathrooms date from around the 1959 median build year. Older toilets there often sit on cast-iron flanges and use a 12-inch rough-in, which we measure before you buy.
If the old shutoff valve won’t close fully, we replace it as part of the same job.
How it goes
Measure
We confirm the rough-in from your photos so the new toilet fits.
Remove
Water off, tank drained, old toilet out.
Set
New seal, bolts and toilet set level.
Test
Flush, check the base and supply for leaks.
Bigger jobs, free estimate
Moving a toilet or a broken drain under the floor is a bigger plumbing job with its own free estimate. A rotted subfloor is outside our scope.
While we’re out for this, Rosemead customers often add toilet repair, shutoff valve replacement or caulking and grout repair.
What to text
A photo of the toilet, the floor around it and the shutoff valve.
Toilet replacement questions
Is a running toilet a reason to replace it?
Not by itself. We fix the flapper or fill valve first unless the toilet is cracked or worn out.
Can a handyman replace a toilet?
Yes. We set the new one and test the seal; a move to a new spot is quoted separately.
What is a toilet rough-in?
The distance from the wall to the bolts, usually 12 inches. It decides which toilets fit.
Do you haul the old toilet away?
Yes.
How much does toilet replacement cost?
It depends on the toilet. Text a photo for a free estimate.

How do I measure toilet rough-in?
Measure from the finished wall behind the toilet, not the baseboard, to the center of one of the floor bolts. Most homes use one standard size, but older bathrooms sometimes differ, so check before you buy.

Do you haul away the old toilet?
Yes. We take the old toilet with us when we leave, so you don’t have to set it out for bulky pickup. Let us know when you book so we plan room in the truck.
