Doorbells on ranch-house porches
With a median build year of 1959, most Rosemead houses are single-story ranch homes with the front door under a low porch roof and the doorbell wire coming out of stucco or wood trim beside the frame. The transformer that powers it usually sits in the garage, near the panel, or in a hall closet, and it is often as old as the house.
An old transformer was sized for a mechanical chime, not a camera with a Wi-Fi radio. When a new video doorbell keeps rebooting or the chime hums, the transformer is usually the reason, and a matched replacement in the same spot fixes it.
How the install goes
Find the parts
We locate the transformer and chime, check the voltage at the button, and confirm the doorbell you bought matches what the house supplies.
Mount and connect
The old button comes off, the mounting plate goes on level, the wires are connected, and a wedge is added if the door faces a wall or the street at an angle.
Chime and power
The chime gets its adapter or bypass, and the transformer is replaced if it reads low. Power goes back on at the breaker.
App and test
We help you connect it to your Wi-Fi and phone, check the camera view, and test the button, chime and motion alerts.
Bigger jobs, free estimate
Running doorbell wire where there is none through finished walls, or a transformer that needs a new connection at the panel, is a bigger electrical job with its own free estimate. Battery doorbells avoid both.
While we’re out for this, Rosemead customers often add peephole installation, stucco patch repair, lock and smart lock installation, outdoor and motion light installation, smoke and carbon monoxide alarm installation or interior door repair.

Doorbell questions
Why does my chime buzz after the new doorbell went in?
Many video doorbells need a small power kit at the chime. Without it, or with a weak transformer, the chime hums. We add the kit or replace the transformer.

How long does it take to install a video doorbell?
Depends on the job; we’ll let you know after we see photos.

Can you move the button a few inches?
Yes, when there is slack in the wire. Moving it across a wall needs new wire.

Will rain short out an outdoor doorbell?
Not if it is sealed. A sealed mount and a bead of sealant behind the plate keep water out. We check that on every outdoor install.
Can you install a Ring, Nest or other brand?
Yes. Bring the model you prefer, or send a link first so we can confirm it fits your wiring and chime.
Does the doorbell need a special circuit?
No. It uses the low-voltage doorbell wiring or batteries. We never run it on a regular household circuit.
Will drilling into stucco leave a mess?
Very little. We use the right bit, vacuum the dust and seal behind the plate so water stays out.
Can you replace only the chime?
Yes. A new chime on the existing wires is a short visit.
Will a video doorbell work with my old wiring?
Usually, if the transformer supplies enough power. We test it and replace the transformer if needed.
My chime buzzes after installing a video doorbell. Why?
Many video doorbells need a chime adapter or a setting change. We fit and set it so the chime rings cleanly.
What if my Wi-Fi does not reach the front door?
Check the signal on your phone at the door first. A mesh node or extender near the entry often solves it.
Battery or wired?
Wired means no charging. Battery models suit doors without wiring, and we mount them so they are easy to remove for charging.
Can you mount it on stucco?
Yes, with masonry anchors and a bead of sealant behind the plate to keep water out.
Do you set up the app?
Yes. We stay until it connects, records and sends alerts to your phone.
