Aluminum windows in Rosemead
Homes from around Rosemead’s 1959 median build year often had their original windows replaced with aluminum sliders or single-hungs in later decades. Those windows are durable, but their small rollers and balances wear out.
Dust and garden grit collect in the bottom track, which wears rollers faster, so we clean every track we work on.

Aluminum sliders in Rosemead's mid-century homes
Most Rosemead homes built between the 1950s and the 1970s came with aluminum horizontal sliders. Their rollers are small nylon or steel wheels set into the bottom of the sash. Once those wheels flatten or crack, the window grinds along the track, and people start forcing it with both hands.
Many of these windows are still worth repairing. We pull the sash, clean the track, replace the rollers with a matching profile and reinstall it so it slides with one finger.
- Sash rollers replaced with the right size and housing
- Tracks cleaned of grit and old weatherstripping
- Pile weatherstrip replaced to cut drafts and dust
- Latches and anti-lift blocks replaced so the sash cannot be lifted out from outside
Vinyl replacement windows
Many Rosemead homes have had vinyl replacement windows installed in the original openings. Their rollers are built into the sash, and replacement parts often come from the window maker, so a photo of the label in the frame helps us order the right parts.
If the glass is fogged between panes, the seal has failed. That is a glass unit replacement rather than a roller fix, and we tell you which one you need before we start.
New windows
Broken glass and new windows go to a window company.
While we’re out for this, Rosemead customers often add window lock and latch repair, window screen repair, window caulking and draft sealing or window leak repair.

Window questions
Why is my sliding window hard to open?
Worn rollers or a dirty track. Cleaning and new rollers fix most.

Why won’t my window stay up?
The balance inside the frame has failed. It can be replaced.
Can you fix the window lock too?
Yes, latches and locks too.
How much does window repair cost?
It depends on the parts. Text a photo for a free estimate.
