In short
Sliding glass doors that drag, jump the track or won’t lock usually need rollers and a track cleanup, not a new door. We clean and straighten the track, replace the rollers, set the panel height, and adjust the latch and keeper so it locks on the first try.
Your photo checklist
- The slider from inside, closed
- The bottom track with any dirt or dents
- The adjustment ports at the panel’s bottom edge
- The latch from the side
- A short clip of you opening it
Covered on a Rosemead visit
- Worn or seized bottom rollers swapped for matching replacements
- Roller height set so the panel rides level and meets the jamb evenly
- Track vacuumed, scraped and wiped; small dents in an aluminum track eased flat
- Handle sets, mortise latches and keepers replaced and aligned
- Add-on foot locks or a security bar fitted for extra peace of mind
- Patio screen doors rerolled, rescreened and given a working latch
Outside what we take on
- Cutting new openings for doors or windows.
- Glass replacement; a glass shop handles panes and sealed units.
- Garage door openers, springs and tracks.
Patio sliders in Rosemead ranch homes
The Census Bureau’s American Community Survey gives 1959 as the median year Rosemead homes were built. Plenty of those single-story houses had a back wall opened up for an aluminum slider in the 1970s or 1980s, and many were later swapped for vinyl. Both kinds use a panel resting on two small wheel assemblies, and those wheels are the part that wears out first.
Backyard grit is the other half of the story. Leaves, dirt from planters and sand from the patio settle into the lower channel, the wheels grind over it, and their bearings go flat on one side. Once that happens, cleaning alone does not bring the glide back; new rollers do.
What the visit looks like
Diagnose at the door
We slide the panel, look at how it sits against the jamb, check the track for dents and debris, and test the latch. That tells us whether it is rollers, track, hardware or a mix.
Lift and swap
With two people, the panel comes off the track and is laid on padded blocks. The old roller housings slide out of the bottom rail and matching ones go in.
Reset and adjust
The panel goes back on, we set the height screws so it travels level, then align the latch with the keeper so it catches without a slam.
Finish the screen
If the screen panel drags or the mesh is torn, it gets new wheels, a new spline and mesh, or both, so the whole opening works again.
When it is a glass or door shop job
We repair the door you have. Cracked or fogged insulated glass, a bent frame, or a full new patio door goes to a glass shop or door installer, and we tell you that at the first look.
While we’re out for this, Rosemead customers often add screen door repair, lock and smart lock installation, window screen repair, weatherstripping and door sweeps, interior door repair or door leak repair.
What to text
A short video of the door sliding, a photo of the handle side, a close-up of the bottom track, and any brand name you can see on the frame.
Sliding door questions
Why is my sliding door hard to slide?
Worn rollers or a dirty, dented track. New rollers and a cleaned track fix most of them.
Why does my sliding door stick?
Dirty track or worn rollers. Clean and replace.
How much does sliding glass door repair cost in Rosemead?
Depends on rollers. Send a video.
How do I know the rollers are bad?
Grinding, a door that is easy at one end and stiff at the other, or a panel that sits lower on one side are the usual signs.
Can you find rollers for an old aluminum door?
Most older doors take one of a handful of common roller styles. We pull one out, match it, and bring the right part.
Should I spray lubricant in the track?
Not oil or grease, which holds dirt. Keep the track clean; a little dry silicone on the rollers is enough.
Why won’t my door lock?
Usually the panel has dropped and the latch no longer meets the keeper. New rollers and a height adjustment often fix it.

Can you add a pet door or a second lock?
We can add a foot lock or a security bar. Cutting into the glass panel for a pet door is a glass shop job.

How long does it take?
Depends on the job; we’ll let you know after we see photos.

Does a vinyl door need different care?
A little. Vinyl frames move more in heat, so the gap at the jamb matters. We set the height with that in mind.
Can you add a dog door to a sliding glass door?
Yes, with a panel insert that sits in the track beside the slider. No glass is cut, and it comes out when you move.
Why is my sliding door hard to lock?
The panel has dropped as rollers wore, so the latch misses the keeper. Raising the panel or moving the keeper fixes it.
